IOTA to Revolutionize Biometric System

How prevalent is fingerprint biometric usage? Almost everyone with fingerprint authenticated smart phone and employee working at an MNC use it quite often. IOTA announced that it is planning to power a biometric authentication system that will use palm vein pattern to authenticate their identity.

This system will work on digital ledger technology named tangle which is developed by IOTA. IAMPASS Proof of Concept is the name of the new system.

How is It Better?

The scanning of palm vein pattern is distinctive which allows for unique authentication. A distinctive and verifiable identity for each user is created. This system can be used for accessing high security platforms, secure identification and asset management. It also enables audit trials for users.

The users will be able control manage their accounts more securely and control their data more privately. The proposed system will also diminish cases of identity theft by using foundation’s biometric identifier.

Dominick Schiener, the co-founder of IOTA foundation, said that the system would be able to tackle some of the biggest problems that cryptocurrency sector is facing such as identity theft and effective authentication methods. Further, he added:

“This is why we are excited about IAMPASS proof of concept, which uses the IOTA permission-less distributed ledger to make identity not only portable, but also give users assess and ownership ownership over their own data. With the maturation of identity like these, we will see the IOTA ecosystem providing a key technical puzzle piece for the adoption of distributed ledgers.”

Toan Nguyen, the director business development and cloud platform added:

“Together, we expect the IOTA ecosystem and IAMPASS to help drive the next phase of digital identity management for high secure environments like data centers and in the smart city.”

IAMPASS is the newest child of IOTA.
